Janet Clarke Hall offers a close and supportive community within the larger framework of the University. Here you will find, among a hundred others with similar hopes for their degree and future pathway, people who will help you along the way in your studies and life in general.
As a College, we have everything on offer. Our size and energy allow fantastic opportunities for all of our students to try new things, pursue excellence, and lead.
We also have an outstanding tutor team who engage daily in teaching, learning, and mentoring. As a result, our academic performance is incredibly strong.
How do we measure this?
Consistently more than 40% of all of our student grades are First Class Honours, with 90% of all grades at Honours level - significantly above the University average. Alongside this academic success, our students are fully engaged in the social, cultural and sporting life of the College and beyond.
So how do I compare colleges?
Every college has its own culture. Simply put, if you imagine colleges as people, each with their own personality, some you could be life-long friends with, others would merely be acquaintances...
Intelligent and hard-working
They know that University is a cornerstone of their education and the single most important factor in determining their career, life and future. They value knowledge, but wear it lightly; this person is no nerd.
Open minded
They're open-minded and rigorously accepting of new people and ideas. They're courageous enough to speak up when they sense intolerance.

If JCH was a person, that person would be:
Intelligent and Hardworking
They know University is a cornerstone of their education and the single most important factor in determining their career, life and future. They value knowledge, but wear it lightly. This person is no nerd (okay – maybe they're a little nerdy!)
Open Minded
They're open-minded and accepting of new people and new ideas. They're courageous enough to speak up when they sense intolerance.
Friendly and Accepting
This person is friendly and warm. They value friendship with people who are like them, or completely different to them. They are not a fan of cliques or groups that exclude.
A Balanced Individual
They're able to see the big picture and realise that there's more to life than themselves. They value academics – and they also like to have fun.
And their views on religion, politics & asylum seekers?
That's probably something you should ask them, but the point is...they have views. They're engaged with the world. Ideas, discussion and debate make them come alive.
What they don't like...
Pettiness, style-over-substance, intolerance, laziness... and pitted olives.

Our College is situated on the land of the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin Nation, whose stories, educational practices and connection to Country are part of the world’s oldest living culture. We acknowledge the traditional custodians of this land, and pay our respects to Elders past, present and those emerging in our community.
