Ms Rose Chaffey
Bachelor of Music
Rose grew up in the Blue Mountains in New South Wales and moved to Melbourne in 2015 to pursue her study of classical cello. She completed her Bachelor of Music (Cello Performance) at the University of Melbourne in 2016 and is currently completing her Honours (Performance) jointly at the University of Melbourne and the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna, where she won the single position available for Australian students. Since 2012, Rose has been a Principal and Tutti member of the Australian Youth Orchestra. Additionally, she was invited to perform at the Australian Festival of Chamber Music in 2018 with world renowned cellists István Várdai and Guy Johnson. She performed at the 2016 Australian Musica Viva Festival and the 2015 and 2017 Melbourne International Cello Festivals. Rose has been awarded numerous scholarships including the Kate Flowers Memorial Scholarship, the Liselotte Nassau Cello Scholarship, and the Corina D’Hage Mayer String Scholarship. She was a featured soloist on ABC Classic FM with the Australian Youth Orchestra and has appeared on Melbourne’s 3MBS FM radio station. Rose is an experienced freelance musician and cello teacher and looks forward to extending her experiences and abilities to all with a musical focus at JCH.
Away from music, Rose has a keen interest in sports and visual arts, and loves spending time outdoors. In her spare time Rose can be found sewing, drawing, running, cooking and hiking.
