Ms Elise Matthyssen
Teaching areas: Linguistics, Literature, English, Academic Skills, Essay Writing and French
Elise has degrees in Arts (English and French) and Engineering (Electrical) from UNSW. She is currently completing a Master of Applied Linguistics at the University of Melbourne and recently completed a CELTA qualification at RMIT for teaching English to speakers of other languages.
After growing up in country Victoria, she moved to Sydney for her undergraduate studies. This included an exchange semester in Paris, studying French courses in literature, film, and music. After graduating from UNSW with the University Medal in English, she spent two years travelling in Central and South America. She has taught English in Panama, Colombia, and Brazil and has volunteered as an English-Spanish interpreter in Colombia’s Sierra Nevada and the Peruvian Amazon.
Her interests include language learning and teaching, modernist literature, cooking, gardening, and playing piano. In her spare time, you’ll likely find her bell ringing in one of Melbourne's towers or out partner dancing to the rhythm of salsa, lindy hop, or blues.
